Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few key changes:

  • Every squad includes only 8 human participants, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
  • Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

In short, the playlist lives up to its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it provides additional choices for gamers seeking alternative methods to have fun with the title. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are mad.

Community Responses: Anger to Support

"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and another details all the issues they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."

However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Player Feedback

Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community meeting them in the middle, according to forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on feedback. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
