The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
